Language tests

Not sure about your language level? You can quickly and easily determine your language level in German, English, French, Italian, Dutch and Spanish. A placement test consist of 5 texts that are becoming increasingly difficult. In these texts, the last part of every second word is missing. If a word consists of an odd number of letters, half the number of letters plus one letter is missing. You always have to fill in something. If you do not know, you can put an x in the blank.

A placement test doesn’t have a time limit, but you can count on about 5 minutes per text (i.e. 25 minutes in total). After the last text, you can click on the ‘finish’ button. You will then see the result of the placement test.

The ‘placement tests’ project is an initiative of language centres within the association of Dutch and Flemish University Language Centres (Nederlandse en Vlaamse Universitaire Talencentra, NUT). The result of the project is this website with placement tests for several languages. The German, English, French, Italian and Spanish tests have been developed by Radboud in’to Languages (Radboud University – Nijmegen), Wageningen in’to Languages (Wageningen University & Research), Academic Language Centre (Leiden University), TCP Language Centre (University of Twente) and University of Groningen Language Centre.
